Is there a reason why we run 26 miles in a marathon? We run because of greece! It all started in the greek city-state of Ionia.Ionia was captured by the persian empire during the reign of rus the great. he easily conquerd the small greek city-state didnt stand a chance. the small phalanx could not stand the power of the heavy infantry of the persian empire. that infantry was known that day as the immortals each immortal wielded four greek sword known as the xiphos. the xiphos was usually [<-corinthian helmet] smaller than a roman gladius. an average greek hoplite wielded a nine to six feet long spear known as the dori. they also had a gigantic shield that usually had a perimeter of 5 feet. most hoplites wore a helmet known as the greek style corinthian helmet that stood the average pressure of a bullet. most of them also astrogenus, or "underwear." yet some wore Lamallar armor
that could stop a 50.6 pressure level. all those facts led up to the conclusion that the hop lite was the most efficient soldier in the world. that picture over there is from

The battle of Thermopylae
The battle of the 300
Sparta and Athens did not know the meaning of a united country and just a collection of city-states that often fought each other for supreme control. the thought of a united country was a complete folly to them. King Xerxes had a plan to conquer greece and expand his empire, which was already two-thirds of this world. A Greek spy counted the soldiers for the expedition. many scholar estimate the number 300,000, but some even agree that the number could have been as high as 2,000,000, the same number as soldiers on Normandy on d-day. To a greek eye, it would look like the whole world was turning against them. he ran back to Athens and dropped dead from fear. Of course the Athenians asked their enemies for help. The spartans strangely agree to their proposal because they loved war and did not have a war for almost 14 years which made them incredibly stressed. One of the two kings of sparta lead this expedition. He went through the horrible spartan military camp that has only one goal, to make all spartan boys into

One of the two kings of sparta lead this expedition. He went through the horrible spartan military camp that has only one goal, to make all spartan boys into
killing machines. After his brutal training the king of Sparta now sits on the royal throne. A bruised man limps towards him, and spoke to him in a hoarse voice,'Bow down to the god-king of Persia, Xerxes, and have all the riches you could ever imagine. Have ten wives and bear the greatest sons of history. All you have too do is bow down. Leonidas then grabbed the man by his hair and threw in a well,'hear this Persian! THIS IS SPARTA!!!'
After kicking his royal henchman in a well Leonidas now knows that the emperor of Persia Xerxes is determined in destroying Sparta. Xerxes sends out his army of 400,000 light and heavy infantry to destroy his now worst enemy, Sparta. yet one obstacle stands in his way, a mile wide river known as the Hellespont. Either Xerxes crosses the river, or walks around the black sea, which would take him about three years to his journey and make him conquer a new group of people. he chooses the Hellespont. he tells his architects to build a bridge made out of canoes and small wooded planks and tells his enormous army to cross it. then the marching resumes.
Picture number 2 and 5 are pictures of the phalanx formation and the rest are scenes from Google about the movie 300 and is from 300.com
After Xerxes has crossed the Hellespont, he prepares to fight the Greeks, once and for all. After setting his camp about 10 miles away from a mountain pass called Thermopylae where he prepares to fight. He gets about 200,000 light infantry, 100,000 heavy infantry, and 2,000 heavy and light cavalry. Then suddenly his messenger burst in his room. Xerxes's guard ready their bows and spears. His bodyguards draws swords. But on this October day the scout, knowing that he will die anyway, boldly trudges in the palace. If you allow me to go to the Greek army and tell them of this decision, I shall proudly lay down my head. Xerxes, being very touched by the speech of his scout promises him not to kill him and tells him to do what he just asked, he may become a general of his 10,000 heavy infantry, or the Immortals. He throws head backward and leaves the palace
Later that day the first sound of battle sound to the Spartans. They assemble to their Phalanx position and prepare for the charge, yet the people no person that is coming towards them is not a soldier but obviously a scout. Leonidas is well aware that the God-king's way of fighting is to make a treaty first. The scout says to of course give up. Leonidas does not give up, yet says that he is determined to fight the mighty Persian Empire. the scout says to Leonidas ,"very well our arrows shall be in such a number it shall block out the sun." "Then Leonidas's friend Stelios tells the scout "then we shall fight in the shade." The scout returns to Xerxes and informs him of the reply that the Greeks made. Xerxes is now very furious. He launches his first attack to the Greeks. 10,000 light infantry to destroy the Greece soldiers
The Greeks stand in a mist the most feared empire at the time. Leonidas says ,"lock shields!" and the Spartans lock shields,"Helmet!" Commands Leonidas and the Spartans put on their Corinthian helmets, "prepare!"and the Spartans lock on to their enemy. Silence fills the air. the hot temperature really make it feel like it is the hot gates. The Persian charge first and SLAM into the Spartans. after 2 seconds of pushing, the second row of Phalanx help push back the Persians. then the Spartans go on the offense. They put down their spears and jab the real butchering begins. After 3 hours of killing the Persians get so desperate that they bite the Greek shields and steal their spears. But the Greek sheilds are relentless and don't break. The spears are something that the Greeks knew and got out their second weapon, the Xiphos and the Real butchering begins. Greeks didn't know that the Persians were firing their arrows all the time.. Leonidas tells his Spartans to get in a Position called the tortoise. It is called the tortoise position because the Spartans use their shields as a shell to protect them from the arrows of the Persians. The arrows didn't allow one drop of Greek blood to touch the ground. The hop lite is a very efficient soldier...
