At least one fifth graders has read this excellent Newbery honor book by Gail Carson Levine. She is one of favorite authors and has written many books including Fairest and the Tale of Two Castles.I will write about her other works sometime soon. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/ella-enchanted-gail-carson-levine/1100151971?ean=9780062253484&itm=1&usri=9780062253484 This book is about the adventurous Roo as she discovers the secrets of new home. She was taken to her uncle's after her parents die. She never seems to fit in wherever she goes but that changes after she meets Jack, and later her cousin Philip. Journey on this modern day Secret Garden and learn what is really on Cough Rock Island.http://www.books4yourkids.com/2012/02/humming-room-by-ellen-potter-182-pp-rl.html
Over the summer I read Wings Of Fire Book 1! Then I read Book 2, 3 and 4! Wings of Fire are about 5 dragons ( about 16 in a human world ) go on an adventure! Of course there are characters, too! Clay- is a gentle giant , he is a MudWing ( basiclly a mud dragon ). Sunny- is a Sand Dragon and she is the shy one. Glory- is the sarcastic one. Tsunami- is Sea Dragon and she is the fierce one. Starflight- is the smart one. These dragons are part of a prophecy to end the war, but is it REALLY worth it? There 4 books so far ( The Dragonet Prophecy, The Lost Heir, The Hidden Kingdom, and The Dark Secret ). I really like this book! The 1st book is kinda of eek! This is really a book for 10 year olds! It's NOT a book for very young people! I don't suggest this book for 5 year olds so don't be showing this to your younger siblings! Maybe 8 but only if their ready to read about wars and gladiator fights! The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th book are for about 8 and up, but not the 1st one. I also like these series, because it dose not focus on romance like other action adventure series. ANYWAYS this is Mary signing off! Here is a link to the website on Scholastic! The pictures of the book are at the link on the button!
This book is written in the worst and best of times. It takes place over a decade after America's independence from England and just when the Yellow
Fever breaks out in the city of Philadelphia, the capital of the U.S. at the time.Follow Mattie on this emotional journey through the plague and see if she comes out alive. http://www.sikeston.k12.mo.us/afladung/FeverWebQuest/lesson-template1/Fever1793Webquest.html Give us your feedback because right now this seems like the most popular bluebonnet book. Another thing to tell you is that Maureen Sherry will come in March. Tell what you like and dislike about the book.
